Welcome to the New River Valley Bird Club's Home Page. We are a local chapter of the state organization, the Virginia Society of Ornithology. Our club is dedicated to furthering the enjoyment and understanding of birds. Meetings are held on each first Wednesday, September through May, at the Blacksburg Library. We begin at 7:30 p.m. with an informal business meeting where we share sightings, announce scheduled field trips, and plan for future events. The short business session is followed by a program with a guest speaker. We encourage you to check out our "Event Calendar" for detailed information. In addition to our monthly meetings, we offer several fields trips each month. Anyone with an interest in birds, regardless of their experience, is invited to join us. This is a great way to get started in birding or to discover some of the exciting birding areas in the western part of Virginia. Details about these trips can be found by clicking "Event Calendar". If you have a specific question that is not addressed on this site, or if you are new to the area and would like to introduce yourself, please contact us. New***Our club has adopted the Radford Arsenal IBA (Important Bird Area).
We will be surveying the area to determine breeding bird status and seasonal abundance of species.
In the future, we will help in the removal of invasive species. Posting of our data may be found on the "IBA Adoption" link. |
